Festa della Salute bridge boats

Pick your role (visit, watch, cross) and the time. The tool returns the timing of the bridge of boats across the Grand Canal, mass schedule, and votive candle rules.

What this solves

Festa della Salute (November 21) is a Venetian public holiday dating from the plague of 1630-31. A temporary pontoon bridge of boats crosses the Grand Canal between Santa Maria della Salute and San Marco for the feast week. Tourists often arrive on November 22 and miss everything. This tool returns what to expect.

How to read the result

"Bridge of boats" is the temporary floating bridge across the Grand Canal — pedestrians only, no luggage with wheels. "Votive candle" tradition is the Salute's signature practice; visitors bring a candle (€5-€10) to leave at the altar in thanksgiving. "Mass" is the morning pontifical mass celebrated by the Patriarch of Venice.

The bridge closes around 21:00 each evening. It's busiest between 09:00 and 11:00. Late afternoon (after 17:00) is calmest for crossing.
