Gondola fare decoder
Tell the tool when you want to ride, the route length, and extras. It returns the official maximum fare per boat and the band your ride falls into.
What this solves
Gondola fares are set by the Comune di Venezia tariff decree. A gondolier cannot legally charge more than the published band — but the bands depend on time, route length, serenata, and station count. Most visitors are quoted €120-€150 without understanding that the official night tariff after 19:00 is €110 plus extras, and that serenata is its own separate surcharge. This tool computes the max fare per boat for your ride.
How to read the result
"Base fare per boat" is what the gondolier must charge for the time band. Each gondola takes up to 6 people. If your group is 7 or 8, you need 2 gondolas, each at the same base — total is 2× the base. After 19:00, a +30% night supplement is allowed (€110 total cap).
Anything above the published maximum is not a legal tariff — that's the "tourist supplement" the gondolier may attempt. You can refuse and request the official rate card.

FAQ
Can I split a gondola with strangers?
No. Gondolas are private to your party. There is no shared-ride gondola. Traghetti are a separate service (different group).
What if a gondolier demands €150 for a day ride?
Politely decline and ask for the official tariff card. The maximum day fare is €90 for a standard ride. Report overcharging to Ente Gondola (gondolier trade association).
Is tipping expected?
5-10% is appreciated for good service. Some travelers round up to the next €10.
