Cicchetti + bacari route planner
Pick your starting sestiere and dietary constraints. The tool builds a 4-stop crawl with walking minutes and the dish to order at each.
What this solves
A cicchetti crawl — visiting 3-4 bacari in an evening — is the most Venetian thing you can do with a meal. The challenge is that bacari open and close on different days; fish-times items are seasonal; and the order at each stop matters (don't fill up on bread at stop 1). This tool returns a tested 4-stop plan with what to order at each.
How to read the result
Each stop shows the bacaro name, the walk from the previous stop, and what to order. "Per person" assumes 2 dishes + 1 spritz at each. The total budget is typical. Bacari closer to tourist hubs will be more expensive than back-street local ones — the route picks accordingly.
The classic order is: 1 cicchetto with fish (sarde in saor, baccalà mantecato), 1 cicchetto with vegetables or bread (castraure, radicchio), then a spritz. Eat standing or at the banco if the inside is full.
Limitations
- Some bacari are cash-only — see cash vs card.
FAQ
What is a bacaro?
A bacaro is a small Venetian wine bar that also serves cicchetti (Venetian tapas). Usually standing room, sometimes with a few tables. Glass of wine + a few cicchetti = €8-€15.
Can I just order drinks?
Yes — a spritz or a glass of wine without food is normal. You'll pay €4-€7 for the drink alone.
Is there a vegetarian route?
Yes. Pick the vegetarian option — castraure (artichoke), radicchio, peppers, marinated vegetables, frittata. There are always 2-3 options per bacaro.
